John Kyrle (JK) hockey team faced off against John Masefield (JM) in a friendly tournament (Wednesday, January 25).

The JK team consisted of talented students from years 8, 9, and 10. Despite the chilly weather, the game was played at a high standard.

JM put forth three teams for the half-pitch matches, with JK playing against a mixed age group team from JM, JM Year 10’s, and another JM team. The first game against the mixed age group was a tight battle, with both sides playing fiercely. Leo Green, JK’s goalkeeper, made some impressive saves and JK had several missed chances, resulting in a 0-0 draw.

In the second game, Leo switched to a field player, and the game was just as competitive as the first. JM scored first, but JK quickly responded with an equalizer. The game ended 1-1.

The third and final game was another intense battle, and the score remained 1-1 at the end of the game. JK’s defense was excellent and the team’s attack became increasingly confident as the night went on.

Overall, JK finished joint second, with the JM Year 10 team taking first place. It was a great display of hockey skills and sportsmanship from both teams.
