Ross Juniors entertained Woolhope in sub tropical conditions for their last league game. The visitors knew a point would guarantee them second place. Whilst champions Juniors had the incentive that they wanted to go through the season unbeaten in the league, which would be major achievement after nine months of football.
The sweltering conditions made football difficult for both sides. There were not many chances in the first half for either team. The closest that Ross came was when Chris Davies had a header just wide after 25 minutes and Luke Mayo went on a mazy run from deep, but he finished it with an air shot.
The second half started like the first with very few chances. Keeper Alex Goode was rarely troubled. The introduction of fresh legs in Damon Beaumont and the Loftus boys Joe and Ted changed the game. The home side started to take control and create more openings.
The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when Matt Davies pressurized the centre half into losing possession. The midfield powered his way into the box and slotted the calmly past the goalie. The home crowed went wild.
Then three minutes from time Damon Beaumont was a real handful for the defence with his hold up play played in teeny bopper Harry Hall and he smashed the ball home.
A great end to the season for Juniors in doing the double and remaining unbeaten. Stand in captain Tom Burford commented after the game 'What a season, we are all feeling absolutely brilliant and all the hard work that we have put in has paid off'
The Eagle Inn man of the match was awarded to Matt Davies who gave a masterly display in midfield.
