The Ross-on-Wye Ladies A team were delighted to be able to play the Madley team on a bright but cold sunny morning on Sunday, February 7th.
Brenda Saunders and Val Davies played the Madley first pair and lost the first set 2-6. The Madley couple then ramped up their attack, and despite most games going to deuce, the Ross couple could not capitalise, succumbing 0-6 in the second set. Meanwhile Sarah Drake and Gaynor Rayne played some lovely tennis and with long and interesting rallies against the second pair. They claimed one game in the first set and worked hard to get four games in the second set against a vey consistent pair.
After a half-time biscuit from Brenda and a chat with the four supporters and three dogs the ladies took to the court again. Sarah and Gaynor suffered against the Madley first pair’s accuracy in the first set 0-6, and again were only just pipped in the second set 4-6. Brenda and Val managed three games in both sets, the last game played in a short hail storm. A sprint to the club-house for both teams for a well-earned cuppa and delicious tea.
Despite losing 0-4 the Ross Ladies played some good tennis, but Madley had the edge on the day.
