At the start of her year as Lady Captain, Amanda Marshall set herself the target of raising £5000 for Guide Dogs for the Blind. She organised an event that involved a sponsored 100 holes of golf in a day. She managed to persuade three other game lady members to join her, Kerry Wilding, Sarah Forrest and Helen Palmer. In Sarah's own words she 'questioned her sanity', when on the day, she stood on the first tee at 4am waiting to drive off into the pre-dawn gloom. The 100 holes consisted of two rounds of 18 holes and four rounds of 16, all of which took the girls 15 hours to complete. They played as two balls as their combined shots were counted for a separate fundraising competition for people to guess what the total would be. This amounted to a spooky 2012.

The girls were well supported by a succession of caddies. For the final round the four girls joined forces ending with them all lining up for their last drive off the 16th tee all of which landed on the fairway to rousing applause from the spectators who came out to congratulate them for their splendid effort.

If this feat wasn't enough Amanda's husband, John, was also called into action as he and seven others rode a sponsored cyclathon calling at all the major golf clubs in the county. This tour covered a distance of just over 90 miles for which they managed an average speed of 10.3 miles per hour and took just under nine hours to accomplish.

Amanda's target of £5000 is in sight and should be achieved by the end of her captaincy.
