On Saturday 4th January, Ross Motor Sports Club held their first tarmac Autotest of 2014. 14 competitors turned up in various vehicles from classic Mini's to modern Mazda MX5's to take on the different tests that the Club volunteers had set up at Ross Cattle Market.
There were four tests to complete with three runs at each test (novices got four runs) with the best two times from each test going toward the end result. If you had a bad run by touching a cone, which would result in a time penalty, or a wrong test by missing a cone altogether, then you could drop that run. Even though the conditions were quite slippery and challenging, the rain stayed off, much to the relief of the marshals and organisers. A great time was had by all. The next event will be on February 8th and will be the last tarmac Autotest for this Winter. Then it will change to a series of Grass Autotests at Linton, from late May until August. All dates will be on the Club website.
The larger the vehicle the more difficult it is to manoeuver, so vehicles are split into different classes according to their overall length.
Results, 1st Overall - Liam Rollings (Austin Mini), 1st class A - Richard Jones (Peugeot 106), 1st Class B - Andy Helme (Seat Ibiza), 1st class D - Graham Spencer (Mazda MX5)
