This weekend sees the new British Rally Championship resume by heading North of the border for the Scottish Rally. The four day event of the 70s and 80s has long gone; the new one-day format offers 62 miles in the Border regions, using the famous forests of Twiglees and Castle O’Er, followed by the notoriously difficult Forest of Ae, where the bulk of the mileage takes place.
Paul Willetts told the Ross Gazette: “Yet again another very strong entry will see crews from both BRC and Scottish championship doing battle, with some high profile local honour at stake.”
Will Rogers, from Ross Motor Club, returns to the co-driving seat of Matt Edwards Lancer Evo 9, looking to consolidate their lead in the Group N category of the British Championship. Another good result will all but see the duo wrap up the title, such has been their dominance in the Swift Group/DMack Tyres backed machine.
Rogers missed the recent Carlisle Stages, due to being away, when Edwards stepped into a Swift Group backed Fiesta R5 Evo for the first time, with former M-Sport co-ordinator John Millington alongside, and led the event after three of the five stages, sadly they had to retire due to electrical issues.
“Our aim is to get the Group N title sewn up as early as we can, so we can possibly look at other options for the remainder of the year,” said Rogers.
Also out on the Carlisle Stages were Ross duo Scott Partridge and Mike Jode in the Belfry Hotel/Bullit Polish backed Subaru Impreza. They found the stages very rough, but enjoyed the two long Keilder tests. They finished 39th and 12th in class, and now lead the BTRDA B13 class by 17 points with three rounds to go, next up for them is the Nicky Grist Stages on July 9th.
