A Llangarron-based lacrosse player helped Wales to an impressive third-placed finish at the inaugural European Women’s Under-20s Championships in Poland.
Bethan Morgan, from Llangarron, near Ross-on-Wye, was an integral part of the Wales Under-18s team who secured a bronze medal.
She was joined in the Wales team by Monmouth School for Girls’ pupil, Madison Jones, who captained the team in the competition and was awarded the Best Midfielder accolade.
Wales enjoyed big wins against Poland (20-0) and Israel (20-2) but also had to overcome setbacks after defeats to the Czech Republic (16-5) and England (17-2).
Wales put up a brave fight in an 8-6 loss to the Czech Republic in the semi-finals before bouncing back to defeat Germany 10-9 after trailing 8-5 in the last quarter to clinch third spot.
In May, Bethan, Madison and fellow Monmouth pupils, Elinor Hart and Jena Curtis, represented Wales Under-18s at the Home Internationals in Scotland.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
