Local motorbike racer, Luke Jones, rode in the British Superbike Championship at Donington Park over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend.

Luke was on his 1000cc Kawasaki, competing in the National Superstock 1000 Championship. His practice on Saturday, March 31st, went well with no problems.

On Sunday, April 1st, during qualifying to establish grid position for the race in the afternoon, Luke was 12th quickest, row four on the grid, but on the warm-up lap, Luke crashed out, and could not compete in the race.

Luke had minor injuries and a problem with his knee, but the bike needed a lot of attention.

The warm-up session on Monday, April 2nd was cancelled due to bad weather conditions, so they had two warm-up laps before the race began.

The race in the afternoon was over 13 laps and Luke had a good start. He was 39th on the grid, due to him crashing in his first race, but came round in 17th position.

On his third lap, he was up to 14th position, but on lap four, Luke crashed out and had to be taken to hospital. He suffered vertebrae problems in his back and was kept in hospital overnight. He had an MRI scan on Tuesday, April 3rd.

His family and supporters wish Luke a speedy recovery.
