Ross Golf Club's Seniors Members have five opportunities each season to win an Honours Board Trophy and it was an exceptional performance by 14 handicap player Mike Phillips that won him the Ernest Penn Trophy, being the first in the Seniors 2014 Season. In booking his place at the Club's Annual Prize-giving evening in September, Mike was a worthy winner in the stableford event with 79 Seniors taking part in what was ideal golfing conditions. His spectacular front 9 holes, which saw Mike amass 24 points, included 4 pars and 3 successive birdies at the 5th, 6th and 7th holes. His back 9 holes were no less impressive with 5 pars and another birdie, which meant that his 44 stableford points took him 3 points away from his nearest rival.
