Three excellent goals from Stuart Mills were the difference as Fownhope defeated Kington Town in a match with all of the hallmarks of pre-season. While both sides frequently struggled for fluidity and fitness, Mills' accuracy in front of goal was an unusual pre-season delight.

Last season's top goalscorer started the match in midfield and Fownhope easily controlled the first half. Paul Monteigh missed an early chance, lobbying the outcoming Kington keeper but putting the ball wide, and minutes later Mills hit a shot from the edge of the box which was deflected wide.

18 year old Sam Lewis was Fownhope's brightest spark of the first half, running at Kington defenders and always looking threatening without finding the end product.

In fact, in a first half which Kington created nothing themselves, it was only Fownhope's carelessness when in possession which allowed the opposition into the match.
