Ollie Bennett continued his scorching early season form with an excellent second place finish, when the British Rallycross circus arrived in Pembrey, west Wales for Round Three.

Rally reporter, Paul Willetts commented: “Rain made the mixed surface track very slippery for free practice, but it soon dried out as the weather improved during the morning. Some boost pressure issues off the start line of Q1,Q2 and Q3 left the Xite Energy Drink Fiesta Supercar having to fight from back to front during the heats, but still managed podium finishes in the qualifying sessions.

“With the boost pressure issues now sorted by the Quick Motorsport mechanics, it left Bennett free to concentrate on the Supercar final, but the unusually high number of retirements meant there were no semi-final heats, so it was straight to the final.

“With fastest man over the three qualifying heats, former champion Julian Godfrey was sat on pole in his Fiesta for the final.”

Willetts added: “When the lights turned green, Bennett made a great start, but drifted slightly wide out of the first corner, allowing Godfrey to slide up the inside and into the lead of the six lap final. These two set to with a game of cat and mouse over the remaining five laps, pulling away from the rest of the field, but as the chequered flag dropped it was Godfrey who took the victory laurels, with Bennett right on his tail in second place.”

The result sees the Mitcheldean driver top the standings with a five point lead over former champions, Julian Godfrey and Ollie O’Donovan, as the Championship heads across the water to Mondello Park in Ireland.
