MonRoss Trailblazers hosted the second race in the Herefordshire and Borders Cross Country League at Little Peterstow Orchards on Sunday, with 236 runners striding out.

Even though the local club were hosting the event, they still managed to produce two excellent team performances, both men’s and women’s teams placing fourth.

Oliver Perratt of Ludlow Runners came home first in 34.14, 1.06 ahead of Wyndham Turner of Builth AC.

Fastest MonRoss runner was Luke Gray in fifth in 35.56, who took the over-35 men’s class by 30 seconds from Hereford Couriers’ Luke Mason.

Gray’s club mate Rob Nicholls was ninth in 37.02, with Mark Killeen 33rd in 40.07 and Grant White 38th in 41.14, while Gary Griffiths was close behind in 41.55.

Fastest woman in 23rd overall was Builth’s Donna Morris in 38.44, with Couriers’ Addy Carter second in 41.25.

Laura Lelievre was fastest female Trailblazer and fourth fastest woman in 43.28, just seven and three seconds behind male clubmates Richard Bevan and Rob Potter.

Michael Thurgood in 50.42 just pipped Trailblazers’ second woman home Lucia Demkova by six seconds, with Sophie Williams finishing in 51.27, and Vanessa Ward in 52.10.

The men’s A team’s combined time of 2hours 34.19secs saw them finish fourth out of 33 just over six minutes behind winners Croft Ambrey, while the B team placed a respectable 18th in 2.59.23.

Trailblazers’ women’s team set a combined time of 3.17.53 to finish fourth, 26 minutes behind pacesetters Builth.
