As reported in the Ross Gazette on November 4th, a Ross-on-Wye Town Councillor, Daniel Lister, took part in the UK Obstacle Course Racing Championships, which was held at the Nuclear Fallout Brentwood event in Kent, on November 14th.
Daniel tackled the course with a team, along with Shaun Gash, who is a T5/6 Paraplegic.
The 14 members of the team, called No Fear on Wheels, took Shaun and his chair though the mud and over obstacles, via a set of ropes, harnesses and team work. The course, which is 16k, includes 130 obstacles. The team completed all the obstacles on the day, and will qualify for the World Championships which will take place next year.
It was a big day for everyone involved as it was the first time ever the UK Championship and OCR had an adaptive athlete team category.
Daniel and his team were raising money for Cancer Care as well as Alexandra House, which provides short break care for children and young people with additional needs.
As well as taking part in the UK championships, the No Fear on Wheels team were also being filmed for a documentary by the University of Lincoln about obstacle course racing in the UK.
