Ross Juniors travelled to Rose and Crown knowing that if they win three of their last five games they will win the league. Ross started slowly probably not helped by some players having a very late night before the match.
The opening exchanges were dominated by the home side and they almost took the lead from a corner. Luckily Rob McAfee was on hand to clear the header from the front post.
Striker Luke Gray was a handful for the home defence and almost scored but was thwarted by the keeper a couple of times. Ross did take the lead in the 31st minute when good work by Liam Davies from defence ended in a chip to striker Luke Gray, and he coolly finished making it 1-0.
It looked like Ross were going in at half time with the lead. But right on half time the opponents scored in controversial circumstances. Sam Loftus was injured on the half way line and the opponents took full advantage and made it 1-1. There was plenty of disagreement from Ross who claimed that play should have been stopped.
Three minutes after the restart Ross reclaimed the lead with a great goal. Andy Francis cut in from the wing and fed Damon Beaumont who calmly rounded the keeper to slot it home.
The introduction of substitutes Harry Hall and Loftus brothers, Joe and Ted, gave Ross fresh impetus at a vital time. The game should have been safe in the 62nd minute when Andy Francis rounded the goalie with terrific skill. But, with an open goal, he managed to miss the target from eight yards. Surely the miss of the decade.
In the 76th minute Ross could relax when they made it 3-1. An exquisite pass from Ted Loftus laid on Luke Gray who finished with aplomb to pass the advancing keeper.
Ross were now in total control and played their best football of the match. Ross made it 4-1 in the 86th minute when Sam Loftus unleashed a 'Beckham' style volley ten yards in his own half that whet over the keeper's head, much to the delight of the away fans.
Rose and Crown did score late on to make the final score 4-2. Three points against a team who were second in the league takes Ross a step nearer the title.
The Eagle Inn man of the match was Tom Burford for the second game in a row. He gave a commanding performance at the heart of the defence and kept his team mates calm.
