Ross Golf Club's Annual President's Prize event, again hosted by Club President Di Honey, is always very well supported by all sections and a massive 126 members took part on the day with the course in excellent condition as it has been all season. For some time 17 handicapper Peter Shaw has been making a name for himself in Seniors events and he chose this occasion to demonstrate his golfing skills off the very back tees in this Club event. His highly impressive 44 stableford points score won him the top prize by a clear margin and also resulted in a significant 3 shots reduction in handicap. With 8 pars and a birdie, Peter's round was a model of consistency and he will reflect upon and give credit to all the hard work and effort he has spent on the Club's practice ground recently, particularly through the short game improvement coaching that Peter has received from Oli Leett, one of the Club's Assistant Professionals. Simon Buck, with 41 points, was runner-up and was followed by Michael Bradburn with 40 points and Stuart Goulding and David Letman with 39 points each. Lois Price and Christine Downs, who both excelled with 38 points, were delighted to have been the top lady performers on the day, and Graham Higden and Hugh Elliott would have also been pleased with their respective 38 points score-cards.There was also considerable interest in the 18 holes medal play-off between Gwynne Morgan and Tim Rigden to decide who received the Honours Board recognition of being 2013 Ross Seniors Champion, after Gwynne and Tim tied with creditable gross 76 medal scores when the Seniors Championship event took place last month. In a high quality encounter, the sound start to his round by Gwynne enabled him to maintain his good form to score a gross 78 to secure the title and regain the Peter Carton-Kelly Cup, which Gwynne also won in 2005 and 2010. Tim, who scored a gross 83 medal score in the play-off, still has the satisfaction of winning the Marsh-Allen Trophy for being the best nett medal performer in the original competition.
Each year former Ross Golf Club Captains celebrate the memory of the late Ken Moss, who was Club Captain in 1995, and play a 16 holes stableford and Geoff Baker's 32 Stableford points won him the Ken Moss Salver with David Griffiths finishing runner-up with 31 points.
