Luke Jones, local motor bike racer, was at Assen in Holland for the 11th round of the British Superbike Championship over the weekend. Luke riding in the Supersport class on Appleyard Macadam Race Team Yamaha.

This was Luke’s first race meeting this year. After his accident at the beginning of the year. Practise on Friday went well with a few adjustments to the bike. Ready for qualifying and first race on the Saturday. Luke finished 7th in the qualifying, which put him on row 4 for the race in the afternoon, which was a ten lap sprint.

Race weather was not good with rain all day.

Luke had a good start and was second on lap one. which he held for four laps. but he dropped to third on lap 5, which he held and crossed the finishing line in third place.

On the Sunday, Luke was on the front row of the grid for the Feature race. The run was over 15 laps and the track was dry for the race. He had a good start, but due to a handling problem, he dropped back to seventh at the finish of the race.

The next meeting is at Thruxton, the North Gloucestershire club, on Saturday October 7th. The the last championship meeting is at Brands Hatch on October 13th, 14th and 15th.
