Hammer thrower, Dylan Menhennet, of John Kyrle High School, Ross-on-Wye has finished his busy summer season of athletics in style, culminating in a top eight finish in the Junior Boys Hammer throwing 41m 91cms, at the English Schools Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

The Championships were held at the Alexander Stadium, which is set to be the main athletics venue for the Commonwealth Games in 2022. In doing so Dylan, in Year 9, also helped the Hereford and Worcester Junior Boys athletics team become proud winners of the John Leeworthy Trophy, which is awarded to the team that amasses the most points in the minor counties competition during these prestigious National Championships.

Dylan is currently ranked as the 18th best hammer thrower in his age group in the UK, and is hoping to get a good winter season of throws under his belt at the Forest of Dean Athletics Club, where he trains, before he trials again next year for a place in the Hereford and Worcester athletics squad.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
