Goodrich ’B’ashers travelled to Leominster to play their final match of the Summer season on Monday, July 30th.
They were looking to finish at the top of Division 6 in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League.
Wendy Jenkins and Kirsten Mathews, playing the Leominster ’B’ first pair, dropped just 4 games in their first rubber, winning it 6-2/6-2 despite facing numerous deuce points beforehand.
Playing alongside them, the second pair Sue Harley and Carolyn Riddell, also dropped just four games against Leominster’s second pair, recording a 6-1/6-3 victory. At the change-over, Jenkins and Mathews dominated their second rubber, playing some electrifying shots which enabled them to gain a 6-1/6-1 victory.
The pair cheered on Harley and Riddell who got off to a promising start, winning the first set 6-3 against Leominster’s first pair. Unfortunately, they lost concentration and saw the second set escape them, losing it 3-6.
A tight third set resulted in a very tense and exciting tie-break, and not having a very good tie-break track record, Harley and Riddell were delighted to win this crucial one, which sealed their position at the top of Division 6 and promotion.
