The future of the Herefordshire sports bursary organisation, Ready, Steady, Win (RSW) has been secured by the Herefordshire Community Foundation which has agreed to operate the scheme in future.
The retiring RSW committee organised the last presentation evening of the year at the Three Counties Hotel, Hereford, on December 5th. Twenty aspiring young sports stars were invited to receive bursaries and explain to the gathered participants and parents how they would use the money to progress their careers.
Ready, Steady, Win has been running since 1993 when Jim Hughes persuaded local companies and organisations to contribute funding. Since then many more have helped, but the funding has all been allocated to youngsters now. Hence the need for the rescue.
“We were faced with closing the scheme down completely, if we couldn’t find a rescuer”, said RSW Chairman, Martin Hudson, “so we are delighted to have reached agreement with the Herefordshire Community Foundation to take the concept forward and support local sporting youth.”
Further details of the new arrangements will appear online: herefordshirecf.org.uk in due course.
