On Good Friday 25 very excited players from Ross Juniors went to Edgar Street to be the guard of honour for Hereford United's crucial relgation battle against Plymouth Argyle.

Made up of boys and girls from the U8 to U11 teams, the youngsters were asked to arrive two hours before kick- off to go through their responsibilities for the day. After the routine was practised the children made their way to join over 60 other Ross Junior parents and friends.

Just before kick-off the children were called down to the pitch side to form a guard of honour to welcome the players onto the pitch.

Armed with black and white flags the Ross Juniors sang Hereford songs as the players ran out. Then they all split from their lines to position themselves around the centre circle still waving flags, before they finished their well choreographed routine by running off the pitch. Armed with a complimentary lunch, Hereford T-shirts and a programme the children returned to watch the game with the rest of the spectators in the main stand.

It was an excellent opportunity for the children, who met the players, and Bully the mascot and got a chance to run on the pitch in front of 4500 spectators, Hereford's largest gate of the season. For some of the children it was one of the first football games they have been to, so the chance to actually go on the pitch will not be forgotten for a long time.

The Juniors are still training and are looking forward to a summer of tournaments including hosting their own on Saturday, May 26th in memory of Adam Stansfield the ex-Hereford United player. For this 30 teams and over 300 players will attend from as far afield as the West Midlands, Abergavenny and Chepstow.
