As memories of Christmas slide into the background, Ross Ladies A team restarted their winter league campaign with a 3-1 victory over Bromsgrove A. The weather was a huge improvement over recent times, without wind or rain, and with no ice to slide on.

The first pair of Jane Pepperell and Heather Peachey had a long and highly competitive match against the opposition’s first pair. They eventually overcame the tricky, slippery slice shots from their opponents with some tremendous rallies and stunning finishing volleys to claim a 6-4, 7-6 victory.

The second pair of Gaynor Raine and Brenda Saunders had claimed a convincing 6-1, 6-1 victory over the opposition’s second pair with winners tumbling off the Ross players’ rackets, not allowing their opponents to get into their stride.

There were no stumbles for Jane and Heather in the next round as they followed up their first victory with another fabulous win over the second pair, winning 6-3, 6-1. However, Gaynor and Brenda suffered a defeat to the first pair, losing 2-6, 5-7 in their second match.

After the match both teams sat together, discussing the great game, glossing over any mistakes and sharing a delicious match tea and enjoying a superbly moist lemon cake amongst their tasty treats.
