Zsolt Guti and his partner Nicola are somewhere between Budapest in Hungary and Bamako in Sierra Leone as they are taking part in the ‘World’s last great aadventure’, having driven 1,200 miles from Ross to take part in a navigational race from Europe to Africa.
Zsolt is a Technician at GB Motorservices in Ross and converted his Toyota Hilux himself, using GB Motorservices workshops, tools and equipment in the evenings and at weekends with the kind permission of the owners, Phil Goulding and Nigel Baldwin.
From the start of the Budapest -Bamako Rally, on January 31st, the couple will travel through 14 stages over 17 days through Morroco, Mauritania, Senegal, Guinea, Senegal and Sierra Leone.
On Monday, February 2nd they were completing the final day of the Four Day Super Marathon, the long stage from Budapest to Marakesh. This is the day when most teams cross the Mediterranean Sea from Spain to Morocco.
Posting on their Facebook page, Nicola said: "We are now in Marrakesh with WiFi! Did all of the Stage 1 challenges yesterday, including photo outside Rick’s Cafe in Casablanca- a replica from the movie. We also found an amazing off road section through small villages. We came across a well and then out of nowhere a local came to fill up for his animals."
