The Winter tennis season for the Ross Ladies A Team began on Saturday, October 15th, in Division 3 West.

Ross’ first match was against Woolhope, at home. First pair Brenda Saunders and Val Davies started slowly against the opposition’s first pair, going 0-4 down in the first set. However, they gave themselves a stern talking to and came back strongly, eventually winning the tiebreak for the first set. They powered on to take the second set 6-3.

On the next-door court, Jane Pepperell and Heather Peachey took less than an hour to dissect the second pair 6-1, 6-1.

After a cuppa and a biscuit, the eight ladies went back on court for the second rubber. This time, Brenda and Val were focused from the start and closed out the match 6-0, 6-0.

Heather and Jane were tested by the first pair with long and interesting rallies, but their determination saw them break one service game, and therefore take the first set 7-5. The second set was not much easier but the Ross pair won the tiebreak and therefore the match.

A delicious match tea served outside with copious cups of tea and some great conversation and much laughter between both teams, rounded off a great afternoon with the Ross team notching up a 4-0 victory.
