20 athletes from John Kyrle High School represented Hereford District Schools on Saturday June 8th at the annual Hereford and Worcester County Schools Athletics Championships in Worcester.
Five medals were won by John Kyrle pupils, despite all the athletes having to compete in torrential rain and high winds. Dylan Menhennet started the ball rolling in the Junior Boys Hammer, becoming County Champion with a throw of 51m 32cms and in doing so smashed the old Championship Hammer record by over 12 metres.
George Harrhy became a double County Champion, winning both a gold in the Inter Boys High Jump, clearing a height of 1m 70cms and gold in the 400m Hurdles, finishing in a time of 65.00 seconds.
The final two medals were won in the Inter Girls shot, with Poppy Godwin claiming silver, with a throw of 8m 80cms and Emily Jarvis the bronze with a throw of 8m 69cms.
As a result of their excellent performances Dylan, George and Poppy were also selected to represent Hereford and Worcester at the Mason Trophy Inter Counties Schools Championships which took place on Saturday, June 15th at The Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
