Ross-on-Wye garage owner, Steve Bennett, made a welcome return to the sport after his Wyedean accident last year, on Saturday, April 29th, at the Pirelli Rally, held entirely in the notorious Kielder Forest.
This is notorious for its very high speed, slippery, narrow tracks and deep ditches to catch the unwary. The event was round two of the Prestone British Rally Championship and round three of the Mintex RAC Historic series.
Steve was able to take fifth overall, with new co-driver, Osian Owen, in his RS1800 on the historic event.
Just one place behind in sixth were Ben Friend and Cliff Simmons, who yet again totally dominated their class in the Allglass Escort RS.
Andy Stokes and Ade McNally were to continue their Avenger battle with rival Elliott Retallick but on stage three just slipped into one of Kielder’s deep ditches, and were stuck fast. Which led to their retirement.

Cheltenham duo, Nick Elliott and Dave Price took their third championship victory in a row in the Kellands Escort RS.
