A host of local crews headed for the picturesque mid-Wales town of Welshpool and round four of the BTRDA rally championship with the Plains Rally.

42 miles lay in store for the 150 crews with three stages in the Dyfi complex repeated in the afternoon, with a final blast through the rarely used Pantperthog forest. Dry conditions had made surfaces extremely slippery, with dust also causing problems.

Bob Morgan and Adie Williams continued their recent good run in the Winner Garage Skoda Fabia with 21st overall & 5th in class, despite losing the clutch on stage two. Although they found the stages very slippery on the opening loop.

Ross-on-Wye garage owner, Steve Bennett took a break from his historic campaign to get in some extra mileage, but this time with Cliffy Simmons on board, the duo dropped 20 seconds on the opening test when they caught a car struggling with a puncture, but a good run for the remainder of the event saw them net 31st overall, second Historic car home in the Escort RS1800.

Another Ross crew, Scott Partridge and Mike Jode in the Belfry Hotel and Bullet Polish, backed Subaru Impreza had a difficult day with a wrong tyre choice on the opening loop, then lack of brakes for the afternoon stages, but came 61st overall and 16 in class, which saw them collect more points in the B13 class championship.

Back out after a long lay off were Spencer Price and Chris Hands in the awesome sounding Freelander, complete with new sequential gearbox. Despite some tyre issues, they enjoyed the event taking 93rd and 19th in class. Charles Hopkinson also made a rare appearance, with Colin Jenkins on the notes, in the Dave Jenkins Motorsport Escort RS1800, finishing 104th and 7th in class.

James Dunkley and Dan Evans finished 117th & 7th in class in their Vauxhall Corsa.

The event was won overall by Tom Cave and James Morgan in the Spencer Sport Ford Fiesta R5.
