A nine-year-old Ross schoolgirl, who is a member of a family of off-road motorcycling fans, has made a trophy-winning start to her own pathway in the sport.
Rebecca Brown attends Brampton Abbotts Primary School. She is also a member of the Ross Branch, of the Hereford Swimming Club. She only began riding in motorbike trials at the start of this year.
Rebecca took part in the Western Centre ACU Club Championship 2016, and was awarded third place in the Youth D Class (5 - 9 year olds). She was given her trophy on Saturday, December 10th.
The championships were held over four dates throughout the year. Out of four rounds, Rebecca competed in three, on her Oset 20 Electric Trials Bike.
Rebecca began riding ‘Trials’ in 2016. Her mum, Sandra, told the Ross Gazette: “My husband has ridden Trials on and off, since he was about 16. Plus his dad, who is now in his 70s, rides them too, as well as Becky’s uncle and two cousins, who are 26 and 15. She got into [the sport] because of family.
“I’ve also owned motorbikes since I was 18, but mainly road bikes, although I have dabbled off road, before I had children.”
Rebecca took part on her first training day on February 13th, 2016. Sandra explained that she has now taken part in a total of five training days and competed in eight Trials throughout the year.
Her best result was on September 4th at Longhope, where she achieved ‘Best Youth D’.
In 2017 Rebecca will move up into ‘Youth C,’ which is the next age bracket for 9 - 12 year olds.
Rebecca told the Gazette that she would like to thank all the coaches of the ‘ACU Western Centre - Youth Development Squad’ who have helped her so much this year.
The Auto Cycle Union (ACU) Western Centre Youth Squad is a motorcycle trials team of ten riders aged from eight to 18 years of age.
The Youth Squad are supported by the ACU Western Centre. They are all training and practicing hard to move their riding to the next level.
