LAST Saturday, three rowers from Ross exchanged their boats for bicycles and took on the famous 140 mile Coast to Coast route from Whitehaven to Sunderland.

Anthony Dixon-Gough, Steve Randell and Philip Davies were raising money for the British Heart Foundation, so were eager not to let their many sponsors down, and to finish the course within one day. The whole trip took 16 hours, finishing in the dark after 11pm.

The previous days' rain resulted in the trio riding up hills with streams coming down the road, and through a couple of stretches where their feet and pedals were under flood water.

They are very grateful to their support team of Lorraine, Harry and Ruth, who kept the lads topped up with food and energy drinks, and supplied a very welcome bottle of beer at the finish.

They return to their usual places in the middle of Ross Rowing Club's veteran eight that is going to Henley Masters Regatta on July 6th.
