On a fine autumnal day, Ross-on-Wye Rowing Club’s juniors made the short journey last weekend to Evesham, to take part in the Junior Head of the River race, in search of some medals at this competitive annual event.

In total, 18 crews made the trip and four of them came away with gold medals.

Some of the younger members of this successful local club were having their first competitive row for the club in near-perfect conditions, and against a host of other local, and not so local clubs and schools.

A proud father and J15 coach, Dave Sykes, told the Ross Gazette: “We came to this event to take some benchmark times at this early stage of the winter training period, so we are delighted to come away with these wins. This is a great shot-in-the-arm for this young squad of scullers and bodes well for the remainder of the winter.”
