Juniors at the Ross-on-Wye Rowing Club showed they were still in fine form at Wycliffe Head last weekend, despite having lost their club house and land training facilities to flood damage from the historic high river levels seen a couple of weeks ago.

Yasmin Howe won the girls 15-year-old event, demonstrating her strong form. She was joined in the medals in singles by Hugo Humphries who came second in the seniors open ‘rookie’ event, as well as George Aubrey finishing second in the open ‘non-rookie’ event respectively.

Following close behind in the medal placings were Humphries’s sister Ellie and her crew mate Lucy Billington plus Emma Smith and Annabelle Mutlow.  Both crews gained bronze in their respective double events for 16 and 14 year olds.

Howe maintained her strong form later in the day in a coxless quad crew with Emily Hermon (16), Ella Bardsley-Taylor (15) and Heidi Brodholt (17).  Despite being younger than their competition, the girls came third in the 18 year olds’ coxless quad event.

In response to the flooding, Lea Primary School kindly offered the club’s juniors use of their hall for training. Elsewhere, there has been support from Haigh Engineering who generously provided an industrial unit to accommodate the club’s gym equipment.

Further support has come from Trigate Holdings who have provided storage and Five Acres who provided transport to move all the equipment from the club house, whilst Ross Health and Fitness and HALO have offered use of their changing facilities in the event of an emergency capsize.

The club is very grateful for all the support which has allowed the club to continue their rowing activities.
