WYE rowers headed to the Severn at Stourport for their first event of 2022 on Sunday in bright sunshine.
Racing in Division One, Ross RC’s junior quad scull covered the 3.7km downstream course in 14 minutes 29 seconds in a class fronted by Trentham and AB Severn.
The women’s over 42 quadruple scull raced home in 15.04 to finish third in class 35 seconds behind a younger Hereford RC boat and just six seconds down on Upton.
The mixed masters over-60 boat came home in 15.22 to place third in its class, with the top two Stourport and Avon clubs both boating younger crews.
And the over-55 men’s quad crossed in 15.58 behind Warwick and Worcester.
Local rivals Monmouth RC had a good day, winning the over-50 8s in 12.43 from Hereford by 31 seconds, and taking the women’s over-50 8s in 14.21 by 35 seconds from Shrewsbury outfit Pengwern.
Fastest time of the day came from De Montfort University’s men’s quad who raced home in 11.53, 10 seconds faster than Trentham’s junior boys’ quad.
