A WYE rower has been honoured with the West Midlands 2025 Volunteer of the Year award.

Having been honoured with the ‘Devotion to Duty Award’ at Ross Rowing Club's own awards night, Tim Ball's hard work and commitment has been further recognised by British Rowing.

Tim has been a junior coach, sat on the club board as treasurer, men’s captain, Learn to Row coordinator and coach, and is popularly known at Ross RC as the ‘Boat House Fairy’, ensuring the acquisition and maintenance of a great boat fleet.

Ross have had a bumper intake of 25 new members, boosting their adult membership by a tenth.

And Tim is there every weekend and also drives around the country delivering boats for repair, hunting out bargains, and keeping their fleet up to scratch.

In 2025, he also helped sort out their commercial campsite, an essential source of club income.

The club posted: "We are delighted to announce that Tim Ball has been awarded BR West Midlands Volunteer of the Year.

“This honour is so thoroughly deserved. Tim’s commitment, hard work, and willingness to give his time so generously have made an enormous difference, and anyone who knows him will agree that this recognition could not have gone to a more deserving person. Congratulations Tim!"
