It was always going to be difficult for Ross-on-Wye 2nds to emulate last week’s great performance and indeed they faltered, losing at home to Drybrook thirds 7-15.

The experienced Drybrook side edged the first half but stout defending by Ross kept the game scoreless at the break.

Ross’ discipline in the second period waivered and while Ross had two players in the sin bin, Drybrook took advantage of the extra numbers and scored three unconverted tries.

Back to full strength for the last quarter, Ross looked more promising, especially when the ball was fed to their backs, where centres, Bas Parker and PJ Muldowney were finding gaps or punching holes in the Drybrook defence.

Ross’ try came on 70 minutes through second row Matty Robertson, who crashed over from a quickly taken penalty. Scrum half Craig Powell converted.

Parker and Muldowney both had a great game, along with full back Ryan Keating, but flanker Ian Davies was Ross’ man of the match.

There is no fixture this week for the seconds.
