Ross-on-Wye 1st XV 73 - Kingswood 0

Ross moved within four points of an automatic promotion spot on Saturday with a thumping 73-0 away win against strugglers Kingswood.

It was the home side that started the brightest, retaining possession at ruck time they made progress into the Ross twenty two as their big ball carriers looked for a chink in the Ross defence, but Ross held firm and weathered the initial storm and once they got their hands on the ball they were far too quick in deed and thought for Kingswood. Dan Field opened the scoring after tem minutes and Aaron duly added the two points to put Ross 7-0 ahead.

Kingswood were competitive at lineout and scrum time, however in the loss Ross were able to recycle quick ball, this gave the outside backs time and space which they utilised ruthlessly as the cut the home defence to shreds. By half time winger, Craig Smith, had completed a hat trick of tries and scrum half, Ben Element, added another as he cantered in unopposed from a quick tap penalty, Aaron had his kicking boots on, successfully converting 4 of the 5 first half tries, seeing Ross in at the break 33-0 ahead.

The second half did not bring any respite for the home side, Craig Smith added another score, and Marcus Barnard, on the opposite wing, also got into the act with two tries himself. Centre Matt King finished off a barnstorming run from Chris Price and captain, Casey Morgan, barged over to see Ross score eleven tries in total. Aaron converted nine of these to give Ross an impressive 73-0 victory.

The Bosse interspices man of the match was hooker Josh Element whose ball carrying got Ross onto the front foot and delivered that quick ball.

On Saturday Ross are away to Minchinhampton as they look to secure that automatic promotion spot.
