Players young and old alike enjoyed a Touch Rugby Festival in glorious weather, at the Greytree Ground on Sunday, July 17th.
This mixed (male and female) session featured newcomers to the game of touch playing alongside experienced contact rugby players and non-players. There were teenagers right through to the oldest player at 52 and all put in a fabulous effort to enjoy a round robin of games in the July heat.
The three local teams (‘The Untouchables’, ‘The Expendables’ and ‘Average at Best’) competed keenly and played some great ‘Touch Footy’ as it is known in the southern hemisphere where the sport originated.
The end result saw ‘Average At Best’, the team with the biggest range of ages (38 years), winning overall with two well deserved but hard won victories.
Touch Rugby is a sport that is open to all and there is a weekly session open to all comers every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 8:15pm. Coaching, and a warm and friendly welcome are always on offer; just pitch up and play at the Greytree ground.
