Ross-on-Wye RFC 2nds travelled to neighbouring Berry Hill 2nds in a friendly and were beaten 27-12 in a competitive match. Berry Hill started the brightest, notching up a three unanswered tries in the first period.

The second half saw an improved Ross team with some more precise handling skills finding opportunities to break the Berry Hill defence. Full back Lee Harrington got Ross underway after a ‘show and go’ put himself over the try line. Thai Hayward converted. Next, centres Baz Parker and PJ Muldowney linked with winger Jake Bourne and Bourne’s inside pass found scrum-half Marcus Barnhard who raced home to score.

Berry Hill pushed their home advantage late on to secure the game. Ross 2nds are putting together some interesting partnerships including Parker and Muldowney in midfield and James Masey and Ryan Preece in the second row, which looks promising for the season.

The Drop Inn man of the match was Baz Parker.
