Ross-on-Wye RFC chalked up their first win of the season last week, in their second league game with an away victory, 15-19 to Cheltenham Civil Service 2nds.

Ross started brightly, with domination in the scrums and line-outs and went ahead through 17 year old centre Rhys Samuels who took a pass from captain Pete Jarvis and reached over the try line. Fly half Tom Harris converted. Civil service then seemed to wake up and a succession of rucks lead them to equalise.

On the stroke of half time, second row Dave Mince was on hand to aid Sam Griffiths pass to drive over. Again Harris converted.

Within five minutes of the re-start, Ross nudged further ahead when the ball was sent through the back’s hands to Samuels, who off loaded to winger Paul Wooding to score.

Civil service hit back towards the final 10 minutes, scoring a converted try, leaving the last gasps of the game on a knife edge, but stout defence from Ross saw a much needed win.

The man of the match was flanker Duncan Conquoon in his first game back at the club for a few years, he was everywhere on the park and also bled for the cause.
