Ross opened the 2017/18 league campaign in Glo Division 2, last Saturday in Bristol, with a convincing 58-0 victory over newly promoted Cotham Park.

The home side had been unbeaten all through last season, winning their league comfortably. They started the game confidently, keeping hold of the ball for most of the opening quarter. Their big ball carriers worked hard to find a weakness in the Ross defence, but they were repelled time after time. As soon as Ross were able to win some ball they quickly took a stranglehold on the game, and the tries came at regular intervals. By the break Matt King had a hat trick and PJ Muldowney and Josh Walker added a score a piece, which meant Ross were 29-0 up at half time.

The second half was more of the same. Cotham Park threw all they had at the Ross defence and very nearly opened their account, but for a try saving tackle from Dale Brooke and a foot in touch kept a clean sheet for Ross.

Marcus Barnard, for the second week running, scored after a mazy run from halfway, and Aaron Ryder, Luke Ward and Jamie Hayward (2 tries) also got on the scoresheet. Jamie finishing off a great move from deep in their own twenty two with both forwards and backs combining to put Jamie clear wide out on the right and he had enough pace to score in the corner.

All in all this was a convincing all round performance from Ross which sets them up well for a local derby on Saturday, September 16th against Bream, home at Greytree 3pm kick off.

There were many very good performances from the whole squad last Saturday but the man of the match for another all action display was Dale Brooke.
