Ross-on-Wye RFC 2nds are slowly but certainly improving, but they were beaten 20-51 at home to a Ledbury third side who fielded a lot of their first team squad.

The Ledbury team had quality in their back line, but their confidence was their undoing in the first 20 minutes, as a long pass was intercepted by Ross’ winger Tom Muldowney who sprinted in to score.

Ledbury levelled the score with an unconverted try of their own before Tom scored a second try for Ross in identical circumstances to his first try, intercepting a long pass and going in under the posts. His brother Joe Muldowney added the extras.

Ledbury scored again from out wide, before going in front with a converted try.

The second half was similar to the first with Ledbury just edging it, but Ross saw lots of the ball and were able to string together good passages of play.

Ross lost their inspirational Number 8, TC Leach but his replacement Jake Howells was on hand to score Ross’ third try from a well worked line out move.

Ledbury scored again from out wide and despite a consolation drop goal from fly-half Tom Harris, Ledbury ran away with the victory.

Ross’ man of the match went to second row Henry Tilling.
