As an end of season finale, JKHS U15 girls rugby team was invited to play in the Gloucester Rugby Schools festival on Friday, May 4th. The venue was Kingsholm, and with several of the girls being avid Gloucester RFC fans, it was an opportunity not to be missed. Before the tournament started the teams had an opportunity to watch the Gloucester teams run out in preparation for their match against Saracens on Saturday which the girls thoroughly enjoyed.
The girls played four games in all. They started strongly with a convincing 25-0 win over St Bedes Catholic College, demonstrating some excellent offloads. There was a hat trick of tries from Carys Lowley, and also tries from Heidi Brodholt and captain, Cerys Johnson.
Their second match was against a very strong High School for Girls, Gloucester, who eventually went on to win the festival, and after John Kyrle had two tries disallowed, they narrowly lost 10-5 in a tense encounter, despite a try by Anna Craig.
Ribston 1 were their next opponents, where some fierce tackling from both sides saw the result end in a 5-5 draw. Lowley went crashing over for John Kyrle’s only try.
Their final game was against Ribston 2 and John Kyrle overwhelmed their opponents, scoring freely in a 30-0 victory. There was a brace of tries from Ellie Murrell and Cerys Johnson, with Craig and Lowley appearing on the score sheet again.
The tournament was a fitting end to a very successful season and an experience to be remembered by the girls for years to come.
