NEWENT 1sts XV stormed to a 66-12 win at Nuneaton on Saturday, scoring 10 tries in a first ever league fixture against the Warwickshire hosts.

The Nuns had lost narrowly 34-31 to fellow Foresters Drybrook last month, but their candle was well and truly blown out by the Green Army, who scored five tries in each half, and led 33-0 at the break, to record a second Regional Midlands One victory of the season.

Ben Vincent crashed over for four tries, backed by two from Adrian Connelly and solo scores from Dan Fletcher, Doug Long, Jack Devries, and Nathan Brooks, while Tom Webb converted eight.

That score was nothing compared to Newent Phoenix though, who ran in 19 tries to cane hosts Cainscross 123-7, Kyle Towers scoring five and George Alvis four, with Henry Howe slotting 13 conversions.

In other results, Drybrook 1sts, who visit Newent on October 25, were beaten 31-7 at Bournville, while Ross-on-Wye 1sts XV narrowly missed out 26-17 away to Ledbury 2nds.

Kieron Terry scored two tries for Ross and Basil Parker one, with a conversion from Tomas Mulhearn.

Fixtures this Saturday (October 11) include – Newent v Bridgnorth, Ross v Widden OB, Drybrook v Stourbridge, Newent Phoenix v Cheltenham Saracens, Gloucester OB v Drybrook 2nds.
