The Plums had too much firepower for the Daffs as high-flying Pershore Town won 5-0 in the Bluefin Sports Cup at Wildsmith Meadow.

Sitting second in the Hellenic League Division One, the Worcestershire outfit quickly took control to lead 3-0 at the break.

A build up down the left saw a long cross evade everyone and go in at the back post for the opener.

The Daffs were still well in it just before half-time, but then two quick goals in succession gave them a mountain to climb, the second a right-footed shot after good work on the edge of the box and the third coming after a striker was put through one-on-one with the keeper, rounding him to score.

After the break a blocked shot fell kindly to a Plums player on the edge of the box who hammered in for 4-0.

Newent thought they had a consolation when Saul Thomas’ header was cleared off the line, before Finn Jones saw another effort slide wide.

But Pershore came again, the keeper saving a shot only for the rebound to be hammered home for 5-0.

A Joseph Harwood hat-trick and a goal from Mackenzie Rees secured Fownhope a 4-2 home win over fellow promoted side Worcester United in the Herefordshire Premier Division.

But St John’s Howle Hill lost out 5-2 in the Herefordshire Junior Cup away to Wellington Colts, Jack Lewis and Joseph Thomas scoring the second half consolations.

A Henry McAllister hat-trick spearheaded Lydbrook Athletic’s 9-0 Wyeside thrashing of visitors Huntley in the Gloucestershire Junior Cup, Mike Donaldson with a brace, and Nathan Green, James Matthews, David Tookey and Dewi Stuart also on the scoresheet.

But ten-man Ruardean Hill Rangers suffered a controversial 3-2 home loss to Cribbs 2nds in the Gloucestershire County League, with the hosts’ keeper down injured near the end of time, but play allowed to go on as the visitors grabbed the winner.

Rares Micula hit the post early on for Hill, before Alex Stephens capitalised on a Lynford Bhebhe error to slot past the Cribbs keeper for 1-0.

But the visitors levelled when the ball richocheted around the box before trickling into the net, given as an own goal.

And Cribbs made it 2-1 eight minutes before the break, Aaron Coleman smashing in.

After the restart, Micula saw red for a bad tackle, but Hill thought they’d earned a point when awarded a penalty, Charley Mason converting for 2-2, only for the late drama to deny them.

Rangers’ 2nds also lost out 5-2 at Bream Amateurs in the North Gloucestershire Premier Division, Luke Johnson and Josh Sladen their scorers, while their A side were walloped 8-2 at home by Milkwall 2nds in Division Two.

English Bicknor also lost 1-0 at home to Dursley Town in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League One.

But Mitcheldean triumphed 2-0 at Yorkley to go top of North Glos Division One, Damian Jones and Charlie Meek on target.

Longhope, who didn’t win a game in Division One last season, are still unbeaten at the top of Division Two, although they had to settle for a 4-4 draw away to Lydney Town B, Patrick Cuthbert firing a brace, and Callum Morgan and Dan Morgan one apiece.

Ruardean United were comfortable 5-1 winners away to Lydbrook Athletic A to go second in Division Three, Josh Street firing a brace, and Gavin Kyte, Bean Peake and Dan Reid the others, with Lee Morton hitting the consolation.

Third are Mitcheldean 2nds who hit visitors Broadwell Amateurs B for six without reply, Joe Hughes with a brace, and Robert Brown, Ben Didcote, Tom Goulding and Tyler Kibble the marksmen.

Ross Juniors Senior Women’s team put together a brilliant second half performance to beat Ludlow 3-1 away in the Midwest Counties League on Sunday.

Millie Malsom put them 1-0 up before the hosts levelled just after the break.

But in the last half hour, Ross played some fantastic passing football with Malsom scoring twice more to secure her hat-trick, and the first three points.

Ross Ladies lost out 4-2 at home to an experienced Gloucester outfit, however, their goals coming from an own goal and Danie Ward.

This Saturday sees two local grassroot derbies when Weston play Ross Juniors A in North Glos Two, although the match is being held at Dene Magna School in Mitcheldean, and Howle Hill host Lydbrook Athletic.

Other Saturday fixtures include – Littleton v Newent Town, Ludlow Town Colts v Fownhope, Patchway Town v Ruardean Hill Rangers, Charfield v English Bicknor, Blakeney v Huntley, Mitcheldean v Staunton & Corse 2nds, Longhope v Uley 2nds, Lydbrook Athletic 2nds v Viney St Swithins 2nds, Ruardean Hill 2nds v Ellwood, Ruardean United v Mitcheldean 2nds.
