Following the loss of John ‘Polly’ Rawlings, the team at Ross Rugby Club wore shirts of remembrance before their match on Saturday, March 14th, during their warm up.

Playing at Greytree after the floods of the last few weeks, Ross took a fantastic win.

Widden started brightly, looking dangerous with the ball in hand as they employed a high paced off loading attacking game. This did cause the Ross side some problems, however in the main, their scramble defence was good and when Ross had the ball in hand their direct brand of rugby was too much for the travelling defence.

James Hughes opened the scoring diving in on the right hand touchline. Thai Hayward could not add the two, but soon after Louis Morgan drove Josh Element over from five yards to see Ross 12-0 ahead.

Widden, with their off loading game, kept creating chances and added a converted try themselves, but within minutes Ross added another score from Josh to push their lead to 19-7 at the break.

The tempo after the break did not diminish as both sides looked to play expansive rugby. Ross added the bonus point score with AJ scoring, before James Hughes added his second to take Ross 33-7 clear.

Widden kept going and added two quick scores to close the gap to 33-19, but the Ross side closed the game out with further scores from Alex Davies and Chris Price to secure a comfortable 45-19 victory.

The club give a big thanks to Nick, Ian and Adrian for their hard work in ensuring the pitches were playable.
