Ross extended their winning run last Saturday with a convincing win in Bristol, against the Aretians. As a result, they retain their top spot in Gloucester Division Two.

The home side put up a dogged and determined performance, scoring two tries in the first half after good work from their big pack of forwards, however, every time Ross upped the tempo of the game, they were just too fluent and elusive for their hosts.

It was a driving line out that saw Ross open their account after five minutes. A great take by Josh Walker set up a measured and controlled drive, and it was Josh Element, with an armchair ride, who scored.

Thai Hayward took the kicking duties and bisected the up rights from the touchline. Ross were 7-0 ahead within minutes, before adding another. After a turnover on halfway, Ross quickly moved the ball through the hands, putting winger Craig Smith in space, and he was able to evade a couple of despairing tackles before he outpaced the cover defence to score again. Thai added the two.

The hosts hit back with a score of their own, before Ross added their third. Some strong running from Ali Rees and Casey Morgan saw scrum half Marcus Barnyard move the ball quickly right, where fly half Ollie Thomas put Chris Price into a gap and he cantered over unchallenged.

Not wanting to be left out, his second row partner, Ali Rees then added another score as he dummied to pass, before crashing over to score. This saw Ross into the break 28-10 ahead.

As the hosts tired, the second half was one way traffic, Ali Rees Chris Price and Josh Element added further tries and Josh’s brother Ben got in on the act, with a brace of tries himself.

Thai Hayward then got on the scoresheet, with a try to go with his seven conversions and, to round off, Ollie Thomas got the last try to see Ross comfortable winners, with a final score of 69-10.

On Saturday 16th, Ross are at home against promotion rivals Ashley Down Old Boys, a 2.30 pm kick off.
