Ross 2nds were in league action and came away with a much deserved 10-27 win to a strong Coney Hill third team, which in fact turned out to be most of their second string.

Ross started well and on 10 mins, winger Tom Muldowney scored in the corner and scum half Craig Powell narrowly missed the extras. Some excellent back play saw centre Bas Parker break through and he off-loaded out of the last tackle to Huw Bellamy, who went in under the posts with Powell converting.

Coney Hill were huge up front and had the slight edge on the scrums due to the weight of their pack, but despite this Ross dealt with it superbly. No 8 Adam Clement gathered the ball from route one, hooking by Sean Murphy, and Ross were able to launch their attacks. The game was quite tense with a lot of action taking part on the half way line, but Powell eased nervous by kicking a penalty.

On the verge of half time, inside centre Chay Brine broke free and he timed his pass to perfection to put his midfield partner Bas Parker in to score. Powell converted.

The second half was a lot closer, with Coney Hill grabbing a try out wide giving them a glimmer of hope, but flanker Pete Jarvis put the game to bed after charging down the full backs, kick and gathering, to score. Again Powell slotted the conversion.

At the death, Coney Hill grabbed a consolation try, however it had no impact on Ross who were excellent all over the park.

It was difficult to pick a man of the match with Brine, Parker, Clement all on top form, but it was awarded to Pete Jarvis, who tackled and bustled all game.

This week Ross 2nds are at home to Quedegely & Hardwick, 2.30 ko.
