For the second week on the trot, Ross RFC 2nds dominated the first half at the home game against Cheltenham Civil Service, stepping off the gas in the final period, and ending with a final score of 37-7 to Ross and running in with seven tries.

The home team started superbly with flowing rugby. Their first try on 10 minutes came from Number 8 Dan Gould, who drove over from five yards. He grabbed Ross’ second only five minutes later, in similar fashion, after great approach play from the Ross pack, which contained six players who are normally backs.

Having this number of backs within their forwards enabled Ross to get about the pitch quickly, resulting in quick ball for scrum half AJ Jenkins to release the Ross backs. Ross got the ball simply through hands out to Joe Muldowney who was stood on the wing; he then raced from the half way line to score.

His brother Tom was next to score, again when Ross got good ball through the hands. The second half was a bit more competitive and Cheltenham scored via an intercepted pass. Ross responded when fly-half Tom Harris linked with debutant centre, Ryan Keating and Harris broke through to score under the posts.

Craig Powell converted, but on the whole had a torrid time with the conversions on a heavy pitch, and all but the one try was touched down in the corner. The final Ross try saw, yet again, silky Ross hands passing the ball, ending with winger Sam Griffiths going over.

Pete Jarvis was awesome playing at flanker, hitting rucks and not missing a tackle, but the Magenta Technology Ltd man of the match was Dan Gould.

This week, Ross 2nds are away to Berry Hill in the league.
