Ross Rugby Club’s U12 team hosted Chepstow on Sunday, January 13th at Greytree for the first match of 2019.

The visitors started strongly with plenty of attacking moves across the pitch and quickly scored three tries against the home team.

After a quick tactical refresher delivered from the sidelines, the Ross team suddenly clicked into action and their well drilled training regimes suddenly began to pay dividends. The game became more equal, much to the shock of the visitors.

Ross quickly clawed back to 3-3 with both backs and forwards playing and holding their positions, and by half time they were leading the visitors.

Following the half time break, Chepstow countered with some punishing play but strong defence in critical situations from Ross allowed them to quickly turn defence into scoring opportunities and the scores suddenly looked favourable for the Ross boys.

With six minutes to go Ross led by 7-4 and the game looked to be over, however Chepstow piled on some relentless pressure and managed to close the gap to one point with seconds to go.

At this point both teams were looking like the recent half term excesses and late nights had begun to take its toll, and both teams were beginning to make mistakes, however Chepstow capitalised and managed to score in the final play of the game to bring the game to a well contested draw.

Both teams had some exciting passages of play and the Rugby played was of the highest quality.

Massive thanks must go to Jack Morgan for an excellent display of refereeing, and to all the parents and supporters from both teams who supported the game with knowledge and respect to players and officials.
