ROSS ended their league campaign with a win, exacting revenge for an opening day defeat by their opponents and ending the season a creditable fourth in Gloucester Division two.

As the first quarter came to a close a Ross win seemed highly unlikely; two quick tries by the visitors had seen them take a deserved 10-0 lead and with their lineout and driving maul functioning well, Ross had their work cut out.

Once Ross managed to get their hands on the ball, their running game began to show and they were quickly on the scoreboard. Some direct running by Casey Morgan and Josh Element put Ross on the front foot. Quick ball came back to scrum half Ben Element, the ball was moved quickly out to Dan Field, who lobbed a well-timed pass out of the tackle to fellow centre Thai Hayward to score.

Aaron Ryder added the two and Ross were back in the game 10-7 down. As the half time whistle loomed, Ross added another score to go into the break 14-10 ahead; a clearing kick by the visitors was safely gathered by Billy Hambling on halfway, initially it seemed as if nothing was on, however quick feet and acceleration saw him evade three tackles and in an instant he was over to score a great individual try in the corner. Aaron added a beautiful touchline conversion and Ross were 14-10 ahead.

Broad Plain continued to cause Ross problems in the third quarter, admittedly the Ross pack began to negate the driving lineout with some great lineout defence.

Broad Plain looked to go wide to find a way through the home defence, but Ross held firm and as the game entered the last quarter centre Thai Hayward pounced on a lost ball in midfield and set off for the line and he had enough gas in the tank to score taking Ross 19-10 ahead. Within minutes captain Casey Morgan had added another as he danced through a tiring defence before scoring under the posts. Aaron added the two and Ross were 26-10 ahead.

Broad Plain did add another try but Ross comfortably held out to finish the league campaign on a high with a win and fourth place. Ross however do have one more game; a Forest of Dean Combination final against Drybrook 2nds at Drybrook this Friday, April 29th, with a 6.30pm kick off.
