Ross-on-Wye were delighted when they managed to get back to their winning ways last Saturday with a comfortable 29-10 win at home to North Bristol.

This return to their winning streak meant that they also returned to the top of the league.

After the previous week’s defeat, the Ross team needed to bounce back quickly.

After absorbing some early doors attack from the visitors, Ross took the lead from their first incursion into the visitor’s twenty two.

Following this, some good approach work from the forwards meant that Ross moved the ball quickly right, creating the overlap and putting centre, Dan Field, in to score in the corner to put Ross-on-Wye 5-0 ahead

Within minutes, the Ross side were 10-0 up after a carbon copy almost of the first score, but this time they created the overlap on the left and put winger,  Luke Mair, into score.

For the remainder of the half, Ross-on-Wye just did not let the visitors into the game, their error count was low and they retained possession brilliantly.

Further scores from Dan Field and Thai Hayward saw them go into the break 24-5 ahead.

This set the Ross team up for a confident second half, and the players were pleased to enter it with such a lead.

However, after the previous week’s defeat, the Ross side were aware that they did not have time to relax, and set about preparing to make sure they retained their league.

After the break, the North Bristol team hit back early into the second half, with a try bringing the score back to 24-10.

The visitors, hoping to take the lead, had a lot more possession and territory throughout the second half and proved to be a constant threat, however, the Ross defence was outstanding.

They absorbed all of what North Bristol could throw at them, and as the game entered the final quarter fullback, AJ, scored in the left hand corner to see Ross home 29-10.

With league leaders, Cheltenham North, losing, Ross-on-Wye went back to the top of the league. This was a marvelous result for Ross-on-Wye.

The O James Decorators Man of the Match was Chris Price who had a dynamic game with a ball in hand.

On Saturday, January 26th, Ross-on-Wye will be travelling to Bristol to play Old Colstonians. The game will see a 2.30pm kick off.
