Ross-on-Wye RFC 2nds were back in league action recently, away to Hucclecote 2nds where Ross were overpowered in the first half by an exhibition of attacking play.
Despite Ross fielding a quality back line up of their own, Hucclecote broke through on numerous occasions, putting the game out of reach by the interval.
Ross battled on and never gave up, and in fact Ross edged the second half on points. Hooker, Shaun Murphy, was close to scoring, but the ref awarded a five yard scrum as he was unsighted with Murphy at the bottom of a ruck.
Flanker, Ian Davies, started the scoring for Ross, soon followed by fly-half, Nick Cresswick, who slid in under the up-rights.
Second row, Craig Robertshaw, crashed over on 70 minutes, and then winger, Craig Smith, continued his scoring streak with a try in the corner.
In the second period, Ross put in some quality passages of play, winning almost all rucks and in hindsight should have probably kept the ball within their forwards more.
It was a good test for Ross who came second best to the side who will probably go on to win the league.
The Drop Inn man of the match was TC Leach. This week Ross 2nds are at home to Old Cryptians. Kick off is at 3pm.
